The Quiet Revolution of Rest

There’s a kind of tired that sleep doesn’t fix.
It’s the fatigue that comes from always being on alert. From carrying what’s not ours. From navigating systems that weren’t built with us in mind.
For many of us—especially women of color—rest isn’t just a break. It’s a reclamation. A remembering. A quiet, necessary form of resistance.

I’ve been thinking a lot about how rest has shown up in my own life—not just as a tool for recovery, but as a practice of return. A way to reconnect with my body. With Spirit. With the rhythms that capitalism would have us forget.
In my classes and retreats, we talk about rest not as something we earn after doing enough, but as something we deserve by being alive. We practice rest in community—through movement that soothes rather than pushes, through sound that calms the nervous system, through stillness that invites us to listen.
Because when we allow our bodies to slow down, we begin to hear the wisdom we’ve been taught to ignore.
Rest isn’t passive. It’s powerful.
It softens what the world has hardened. It interrupts the myth that we have to do more to be worthy. And perhaps most importantly—it reminds us that we’re not alone. That there’s a larger rhythm holding us.
Like the hive, like the tide, like the breath.
A few ways to begin your own rest practice today:
Lay down with one hand on your heart and the other on your belly. Breathe and feel your body rise and fall.
Create a “do-nothing” window in your day—10 minutes where there’s no agenda.
Light a candle and lie in supported child's pose. Let the ground hold you.
Say no. Gently. But say it.
Rest is not a luxury. It’s a right. And it’s also a revolution—one that begins inside your body and ripples outward.
